MEXICO AND THE COCONUT MITE
In February I was in Mexico for 2 weeks and the weather was perfect but it was not the season of fluorescence sadly. On the last day, while waiting for the taxi to the airport I went out to the pool and beach for a last "moment" and lo and behold: there were 2 of the weirdest looking coconuts I have ever seen! Just waiting for me (and my camera)!
I spent some time once home "asking the Google" to identify this curious condition on the coconut husks and learned that the coconut mite is the responsible party. Apparently they are a major pest in coconut plantations and have a very particular way of eating their way down the husk. I am still thinking about a possible painting to come but either way, I learned something new.
